Jason Glowney, MD, MSc, CAQSM

Dr. Glowney moved to Colorado in 2009 for a Sports Medicine fellowship at the University of Colorado and has practiced biologic orthopedics in Boulder ever since. His training spans Internal Medicine (with focused exposure to hematology and rheumatology), Emergency Medicine (orthopedic trauma), and interventional orthopedics.

He founded Boulder Biologics in 2018 with co-founder Ryan Shiling, MSN, AGNP-C, building the clinic around a single principle: same-day procedures using the patient's own tissue with minimal processing ("minimally manipulated," in FDA terms), performed personally by the provider you see, with on-site lab processing. The practice does not use donor-derived cellular products, does not perform culture expansion, and does not make claims the evidence does not support.

Alongside the clinical practice, Dr. Glowney founded the Apeiron Research Center: a 501(c)(3) non-profit running IRB-approved clinical trials in cellular therapy. The Research Center is structurally independent of the clinic, and its findings reach the clinic's protocols through formal protocol updates.

He also holds an MSc in applied mathematics, and his research interests include machine learning and AI methods in orthobiologics. His 2024 book, Mathematical Foundations and the Singularity, argues that mathematics should be the center of how we understand existence.

• The whole person, and what you're working toward. His Internal Medicine training (hematology and rheumatology) brings your overall health into the plan, not only the injury. A competitive cyclist himself, he plans treatment around what you're getting back to, from a race season to a weekend on the trail.
• Evidence, stated plainly. A graduate background in applied mathematics shapes how he reads the research. When a question is open in the literature, he says so, and when an indication is investigational, he frames it that way.
• Performed by Dr. Glowney. He prepares and performs his patients' procedures, including every bone marrow aspiration and his own patients' PRP, with biologics processed in our on-site lab and image-guided delivery.
• Research-informed protocols. The clinic's protocols draw on the current published research in orthobiologics and cellular therapy, alongside findings from the Apeiron Research Center's own IRB-approved trials, and are updated as the evidence develops.

Dr. Glowney's research covers three areas:

• Autologous cellular therapy outcomes. IRB-approved, investigator-led trials of bone marrow-derived biologic therapies for orthopedic and selected systemic indications. The Research Center's protocols call for careful patient selection, long-term outcome tracking, and cautious interpretation. Results reach clinical practice through formal protocol updates.
• Machine learning & AI methodology in orthobiologics. Using computational tools to analyze complex biological response data, group patients by shared traits, predict outcomes, and draw sound conclusions from small studies.
• The science behind the clinical practice. Dr. Glowney wrote the clinic's detailed explainer on mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), which goes into the cell biology in depth, and the patient-facing articles in our Learn section.

Dr. Glowney has lived in Boulder for over 15 years with his wife and their two boys. He is a Masters national champion cyclist, racing primarily on the road and the track.
